The theme for my video installation is going to be about "memory".

Memory of my first time getting drunk?

I want to portray this special time in everybody's life but to showcase my own experience of myself swigging a sip of alcohol for the first time.

From my own research that i've gathered from the internet that i have found is If you’re a woman, you’re more likely to feel the effects of alcohol than if you’re a man because women are smaller than men and have a higher percentage of body fat. Alcohol isn’t absorbed well by fatty tissue, so in women it builds to a higher concentration in the blood, with stronger effects.

Upon reading upon other people's experience on social media networks such as Facebook,Twitter I've also found some interesting pieces on forums and discussion sites like Reddit. People had been given their first taste of being drunk from the age of 12 to respectively getting drunk at a Bar Mitzvah. I asked 5 girls and only one of them said they remembered their first time getting drunk and found that moment more significant because she felt had more confidence to dance, socialise with others (something she wouldn't normally do unless intoxicated) she continued to say she had felt no boundaries. To my surprise I was shocked to collect the responses of my survey online where 90% of the men I asked said the moment more significant was their first day at school.

Memory of my first day at school?

Your first day at school is a big milestone in most people's lives whether its transitioning from Nursery to Primary school or from Primary school to Secondary school. I also find my first day at school important because i feel It is a training ground where you form new associates, come into contact with people of different temperaments and forms new ideas and habits This is secondary socialization and occurs during the school years and adolescent years and happens through non-family influence.

I interviewed my friend and asked her how she felt about her first day of school and she gave me a brief description on how her day went

Secondary Research

I went on Youtube and watched video blogs about people's experiences of their first day of school, however most of the vlogs I watched where American children starting their first day of their freshman year, junior high and that is very different to British children who either start Primary school aged 5 and then start secondary school aged 11 so the differences in age vary to Americans. Luca (The girl in the vlog above) mentions that she found her first day of school the same only difference is she's grateful to be starting the school year the same time as everybody else because previously she moved states and had to join a new school half way through the year so she stuck out like a sore thumb.

I have come to a conclusion to make my video art installation about "MY FIRST DAY AT SCHOOL" So I'm going to create a moodboard, storyboard and a shot list for my pre production.

Pre - Production

Mood boards help to establish all of the baselines that will eventually go into the production so creating this moodboard helped me visually break down what components i want to put in my video art installation. I included :

My primary school

My secondary school

Worries of getting older

More responsibilities

What type of teacher id have

Exams

I created a storyboard so its easier for me to know what to shoot and where I'm going to shoot. My video art installation is going to be very simple. The first scene will be me standing in my bathroom putting on my jumper looking very excited. This will be a medium shot.

I plan to go to Burntwood school to film the school children going into school as my second scene but I've found a problem with that as I'd have to get permission from the school and the students to film them as it is illegal to film children (safeguarding). So i'd have to contact the school and ask if can film their students and when, if that doesn't work I can obtain some found footage and distort the footage visually. i.e making it black and white. If I cant get permission from Burntwood to film the students outside I'll contact the local primary school's around my college.I was hoping to have my work on different screens each on a loop.

I plan on having 5 computer monitors each playing each scene on a loop. 1 scene in black and white , the next scene in sepia , and another with natural effects. I want my audience to be sat down with their legs crossed watching my video art installation to remind them about their time at School.
