What is a media institution?

A media institution is an organization , publicly or privately owned that distributes media products in television, radio or publishing.

3 examples of my favourite media institutions are :

Channel 4

Youtube

Netflix

Channel 4 is British public-service television broadcaster that began transmission on 2nd November 1982. Channel 4 is commercially funded unlike the BBC which is publicly funded by viewers who pay TV License. They engage a younger generation in the values of public service broadcasting by showing tv shows and documentaries like "Skins", "Misfits" Channel 4 focuses on diversity, innovation and non conformity to reach a wider audience. They broadcast "Undateable's" "Embarrassing bodies" to reinforce their remit which is to "appeal to people whatever their culture, nationality, religious persuasion, physical and mental ability, sexual orientation, gender, race or age "

YouTube allows billions of people to discover, watch and share originally-created videos. YouTube provides a forum for people to connect, inform, and inspire others across the ​globe and acts as a distribution platform for original content creators and advertisers large and small. It’s been the go-to source for leaked movie trailers, musicians of dubious talent and funny videos. When Youtube first launched in May 2005 it offered free video hosting which is still present now, Youtube is also the second largest search engine in the world, due to its parent company Google who bought the company a year after it's release for $1.7 billion.

Someone who used Youtube to get their talent across globally was then 15 year old Justin Bieber , Bieber was posting homemade videos of himself on YouTube and industry insiders starting taking notice.
